The frame goes up

The steel frame of our new shelter building is going up! The first beam went up early last week, and things have moved quickly from there. Once the full frame is in place, the roof will be installed, then the exterior walls. We’re hoping to hit that mark by the end of this week.

Work on the horizon after the exterior walls are set includes insulation and waterproofing, setting windows and exterior doors, and installing the gutters and downspouts. Once we reach the dry-in milestone, the crew can start framing the interior walls and roughing in electric and HVAC. There will still be plenty of exterior work remaining (exterior façade and canopies, sidewalks, asphalt, landscaping), but for now, everyone is looking forward to not being at the mercy of the weather for a while!

This building has existed on paper for almost two years now, and the thrill of finally seeing it materialize is indescribable. From here on out, things should progress at a brisk pace — we expect to be moving some happy kitties into their new digs this spring!
