Pouring the slab!

After much anticipation, the concrete slab has finally been poured! This is a big milestone for us — the slab is the solid foundation for our new shelter, and we are thrilled to see its tangible form brought into reality. What you see in the pictures is the footprint of the building itself; walkways, sidewalks, and landings will come later.

Once the steel arrives on site (slated for around mid-November), the building frame will go up quickly. In the meantime, the crew will shift its attention to curb and gutter. They’ll also be erecting multiple retaining walls around the property to accommodate the new grade.

Weather has posed a challenge, and will continue to do so with rain forecast for much of the coming week. But so far it hasn’t held us back too much, and once we get through the remaining weather-dependent site work, it will thankfully become a non-issue heading into winter.

We’re so excited to have the slab in place and curing. For almost two years now we’ve had this vision, and now it’s finally taking form!
