Low Cost Spay and Neuter Programs PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Spaying or neutering your pets is one of the most important things a person can do to be a responsible pet owner. Every year over 5 million pets are euthanized due to overpopulation. Besides not producing unneeded kittens or puppies, spaying a female cat or dog before the first heat reduces the risk of mammary cancer and eliminates the risk or ovarian and uterine cancer. In male cats or dogs, neutering eliminates the risk of testicular and prostate cancer. It also eliminates annoying sexual habits such as "marking" territory indoors, roaming in search of females, mounting behavior and aggression towards other male animals. Statistics show that most dog bites are inflicted by unaltered males.

Millions of unwanted and homeless cats are born in our country each year. During the peak of the kitten season - from late April to September - pounds and some humane shelters kill unwanted and abandoned cats and kittens at the rate of over one per minute. For example, two uncontrolled breeding cats, plus all their kittens and all their kitten's kittens, if none are ever neutered or spayed, add up to 80,399,780 cats in 10 years. (This is assuming two litters per cat per year, 2.8 surviving kittens per litter, 10 years breeding life.) Please help us to control the pet population, spay and neuter all of your pets!

The Humane Society of Cobb County offers discount spay and neuter certificates to those that cannot afford to pay full price. The certificates are redeemable at a selected group of veterinarians in Cobb County and in a few other nearby cities. To see a list of the participating vets go to Low Cost Spay/Neuter

To receive our certificate, please mail us a self addressed, stamped envelope with a brief description of the pet with your request for a spay/neuter certificate to the address below.

If you would rather come by the office to pick one up, they are located outside the front door for your convenience.
